LINE auto-reply or AI chatbot: what do you need?

Choose around the questions customers actually ask. A fixed answer can be enough for a simple request; a wider range of questions may call for an assistant using approved business information. Both need current answers and a clear route to a person when the conversation goes beyond their scope.

What LINE's auto-replies do

LINE's official help centre describes auto-replies that respond to every message or to specified keywords. This can suit a short set of predictable questions with prepared answers, such as where to find a menu. Start by checking the features already available in your LINE Official Account. Do not commission a custom system until you can describe what those features fail to handle.

LINE also documents its own AI Chatbot (Beta) using prepared questions and answers. Check its current availability and plan requirements for your account. Compare that option with a custom assistant; AI replies do not always require a separate development project.

  • Prepared answers: start with a small set of repeated questions.
  • AI assistance: define the information it may use and its limits.
  • Staff handover: name the person who handles unanswered requests.

What to look for in an AI assistant

Evaluate an assistant with differently worded versions of real customer questions. Check whether it uses the approved facts, acknowledges missing information and hands the conversation to staff. LINE's Messaging API lets a bot service receive messages and send responses; it does not itself supply the business knowledge or define the assistant's behaviour. Ask how information is updated and how the team reviews answers.

Keep answers separate from actions

Sending a booking link is different from confirming a reservation. Explaining payment information is different from collecting money. O2's AI LINE Assistant answers common questions from approved information, records what customers need and sends them to your booking or ordering page. It does not make bookings or take payments. Work outside this LINE product needs a separate discussion and written scope.

Prepare information and test the handover

Collect the questions, approved answers and links your team already uses. Mark which topics must go to a person, including complaints and requests involving sensitive details. Test unclear wording, outdated information and a request the assistant cannot fulfil. Agree where unanswered requests appear and who checks them. Review the real conversations after launch instead of assuming that an answered message means the customer's problem was solved.

Check the offer and ongoing costs

Ask what setup, maintenance and outside provider charges the proposal includes, and check the current LINE plan for your account. O2's AI LINE Assistant is a new product with no clients using it yet. It supports Thai and English, staff handover and reviewable conversations within its stated scope. Judge whether that scope fits your needs before choosing it over simpler replies or separately scoped automation.
