What changes the scope of SEO work?

SEO quotes vary because the work varies. A site search engines cannot read needs fixing first; a sound site may need new pages; a bilingual site needs both languages done properly. O2 quotes SEO for each website, so this guide explains what moves the scope instead of giving a number.

The state of the site today

The first job is a technical check: whether search engines can reach and read every page, from titles, headings and the phone layout to the sitemap and the links between pages. A site with problems here needs them fixed before new content is worth writing. For a website O2 builds, this foundation is part of the website rather than a separate purchase.

How many searches, and which pages answer them

Each group of closely related searches should be answered by one useful page. More services, more kinds of customer and more questions mean more pages to plan and write. What should not grow is the number of near-identical pages aimed at slight variations of a phrase or at a list of districts: Google's spam policies name doorway pages and scaled low-value content.

Languages and content

A Thai and English site needs both languages set up and written, not one translated from the other. Who writes the pages, supplies photographs and checks each language changes the work as much as the page count. Rewriting pages that exist is usually less work than writing new ones, but only if the existing pages answer real questions.

Checking, and what continues

Ask how results will be checked. O2 sets up Search Console on the client's own account and keeps a plain record of what was changed and which searches show the site. The technical check and the first set of pages are a project with an end; after that there is more to do only when something changes. Search engines decide when pages are read and shown: first changes can appear within weeks, wider visibility takes months.

Many SEO offers are sold as a monthly package. Before signing one, ask what will be done each month and which pages and searches it covers. O2 quotes the technical check and the first pages as one project for your website, with more work only when something changes. The free website audit is one way to start.

What no one can promise

Google states that no one can guarantee a number-one ranking. Before hiring anyone for SEO, Google suggests asking what results they expect and in what timeframe, how they measure success, and whether they will explain every change they make. Paid ads are a separate piece of work: O2 takes them on as a marketing service, scoped on their own.
